Sunday Skiing at Winterplace

Dear Parents and Friends --

Wow! Judging from today, it looks like it is going to be a great ski season!!!

Several folks have asked me about how the Sunday Ski Package actually works.

Here is how we do it:
We leave home around 12:45. Get to WInterplace about 2:00. Get all of our equipment and clothes on (there was only a line for rentals the first time), and are on the slopes by 3:00. The 90 minutes lessons started right away, and they were great. The kids loved their teachers. And then we usually skied until 6:30 and got home by 8:00 (it is, after all, a school night for some of us!). Hard core folks can ski until 10pm!

There is also lot of flexibility. You can go on any 5 non-holiday Sundays that you want. After we sign up, everyone is on their own, you go when you want to.

New info on costs:
skiing is $115 per person, snowboarding is $180.

New info on starting date:
we can start on Sunday Jan 3 if I hear from everyone and have checks in hand by Mon Dec 28. Please make them out directly to "Winterplace".

Our ski group is filling up fast. If you are interested please let me know asap.

Dear Parents and Friends --

Last year our family did the Sunday afternoon Ski Package at Winterplace. We had a great time and the price could not be beat.

We are going to do it again this year, and I am organizing a group of folks who might want to join us.

The package costs $115 per person, and is for 5 Sunday afternoons of skiing.  This price includes everything:
  • lift ticket
  • boots, poles,and ski rental
  • and an optional ninety minute ski lesson
Skiing is Sundays afternoons, from 3pm until closing at 10pm. (We usually skied until 6pm, and felt very satisfied.)

The package is for any non-holiday Sunday in January, February, or March. Within these limits, you can go on the Sundays of your choice.

This is a great deal!!!

If you are interested in joining us, let me know asap. I will then be send you the paper applications, with instructions on the next steps.

The first skiing Sunday will be on Jan 3, snow willing.

Check out the Winterplace
web site for more general info winterplace.com.

Blessings!

Big Night for Open Stage for Kids!

Open Stage for Kid's had a huge opening night last night, Jan 23, 2009!!! We had 15 kid performers and an appreciative audience of over 35 people!!!

The performance were wonderful. Everything from Somewhere Over the Rainbow to brake dancing, to a single knock-knock joke. Everyone had a wonderful time!!!

Thanks to all of our performers:
  • Ron Sowell warmed us up with his song Opposite Day, with big singing along from all of the kids!
  • Amanda Schwartz did a wonderful job starting us off on electric guitar, singing two songs she wrote herself: No One's Listening, and Glass Bottles. The songs rocked! (No One's Listening is a featured song on the Open Stage for Kid's web-page!)
  • Devon Elliot showed great courage, composure and talent with a stirring rendition of Somewhere Over the Rainbow.
  • David Kershner-Leon played two songs on the piano
  • Demma Kahwash recited a poem The Daddy Long Leg.
  • David Murry tested the stage for a future dance
  • Katrina Murry did a freestyle clogging jig.
  • Kole McCallister did a very cool robot brake dance including elements from Walk Like an Egyptian, and he can move his hair without touching it.
  • Jennna Kahwash and Francesca George were very creative with a play about counting flies in a bottle.
  • TJ Salanngo shared a knock-knock joke with some very funny laughing.
  • Maria Cevallos showed great versatility singing The Sun will Come Out Tomorrow, followed by the To Be or Not to Be speech by Hamlet (the most amazing contrast of the evening), and later, a piano piece by Tchaikovsky.
  • And Tessa Dillan caped off the kids talent with two rousing fiddle pieces that had us practically dancing in the aisles!

Ron finished off the evening with a fun sing-along of Turkey in the Straw (turkey in the cafeteria!?), with Tessa joining right in on the fiddle.

It was a magical and fun-filled night, we were done by 7:30, just right for early bed-times.

Special thanks to our adult hosts and helpers: Matt Schwartz on the sound board, Pam Hipler for supplies, and Unity of Kanawha Valley for the snacks, the support, and the wonderful stage for all of our fun!!!
